What if….

…people who decide to stay home to raise their children, were compensated somehow? I know, I know. It all may sound fantastic and assinine, but maybe only because it has never been done. Anywhere.

I am not sure where this funding would come from, but let’s just say. Maybe the funding would come from all of the money that is saved by our government when they consistently don’t develop nationalized health care or child care programs. Just a thought.

But seriously, what would this look like? What would the model be for compensation for stay-at-home-parenting? Would it be something that a parent could do until their children are 18 or only until they start elementary school? Would there be a different program for parents who choose to home school? What would the overall pay model be? Would parents who participate in this program be paid as miserably as current child care providers and teachers are paid?

Perhaps these parents would be enrolled in a school of sorts for training as a parent (I believe that all people should have to do this anyway). This education would start at the beginning of pregnancy and would include extensive post natal training and basic home health care and life saving education. This program would also include in-depth psychological education discussing various ways to deal with post-natal depression, what to do when you just can’t take it anymore, etc.

This education would be compulsory and would continue for however long the person decided to stay home with their children or for however long they could stay home with their children, depending on the statutes of this program.

Possibly this program could offer additional opportunities for career development after the program ends.

There would obviously have to be some sort of regulation and monitoring. Everyone has a boss.

I don’t know. It is just a kookie idea. Obviously, there are all sorts of problems with the idea. It sets up miriad opportunities for program abuse if it isn’t developed properly. Also, it has to stay out of the grubby hands of the Right so they don’t turn it into some scary anti-choice, baby making program. But I think it has some possibilities.

Oh, and it will need a catchy name. I will think on it.

And while no one was looking…

Bush appointed this guy to oversee Title X funding and the Office of Population Affairs. While doing other really scary shit like hanging out with Leslee Unruh (ask South Dakota about her) or being the favorite speaker at the National Right to Life Committee, or just making up crazy stuff about how having sex with too many people makes us dislike other people, makes them dislike us, makes us hate our babies, or some equally ludicrous claims, he is the medical director for A Woman’s Concern, a chain of crisis pregnancy centers (read: those folks who lie in the name of life).

The guy is absofuckinglutely bat-shit kooky! I just don’t know what to say, that hasn’t already been said.

Is there anyway that Bush won’t go down in history as the worst president ever??

And I continue the thread on this guys mustache. It is skeeving me out!

I haven’t posted much lately, mainly because I have been busy with the rest of life. However, I do want to comment briefly on the elections, albeit late.

I join the ranks and ranks of women who are elated with the turnout last Tuesday. The Dems took the House and the Senate and the new Speaker of the house will undoubtedly be a woman (the first in our history), and a self-proclaimed feminist. These facts alone makes me tingly! As of Friday we had 83 confirmed female members of Congress (RECORD HIGH!).

Some really scary legislation regarding teen rights was shot down here and in Oregon. South Dakota got the word out and blasted the ban on all abortions.

I believe that we have some fantastic momentum to get things done. I am excited to see what else we can do.

Also, I hope to be able to post some more thought provoking stuff soon.

I know this is old but I think it should be seen again. We should all be reminded of the type of people that are pushing this type of legislation.

Next week, several states will be voting on legislation that will determine the future of Roe vs. Wade. It is important that we get out and fight for our reproductive freedom.

Did you know that 77% of abortion opposition is made up of men? Rest assured that none of them will ever be pregnant.
